Director Hong Sang-soo’s 34th feature film is set to open in Korea this May.

On the 2nd, producer Jeonwonsa Film Co. announced that 그녀가 돌아온 날 (The Day She Returns) will be released in Korea on May 6. The film was officially invited to the 76th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) and had its world premiere on February 18. It marks Hong’s seventh consecutive official invitation to Berlin.

The story follows a middle‑aged actress who quit acting after marriage and returns through an independent film after her divorce. Three interviews take place at 30‑minute intervals, and later, during an acting class where those interviews are reenacted, she experiences a peculiar blurring of memory. Song Seon-mi stars, with Jo Yoon-hee, Park Mi-so, Ha Seong-guk, Shin Seok-ho, Kim Seon-jin, Oh Yun-su, and Kang So-i in supporting roles.

For this project, Hong Sang-soo single-handedly handled production, screenplay, cinematography, editing, and music, while Kim Min-hee served as production chief. Kim, who has been in a relationship with Hong for a decade and reportedly welcomed a son last year, is once again credited as production chief. Domestic distribution is by Jeonwonsa Film Co. and Contents Panda, with Finecut handling overseas sales.

Meanwhile, Kim Min-hee was once embroiled in a major controversy when her inappropriate relationship with Hong became public, drawing heavy backlash. Since then, she has effectively worked almost exclusively on Hong’s films as a lead or supporting actress and as production chief.
