A star-studded new K-drama led by Jun Ji-hyun and Ji Chang-wook is already sparking major buzz among prospective viewers.
JTBC’s new drama Human X Gumiho is a fantasy romantic comedy where a seductive gumiho (nine-tailed fox) and a human who draws in yokai meet at a fateful crossroads.
Jun Ji-hyun plays Gu Jahong, a 2,000-year-old gumiho and top star who enthralls people with standout acting and unrivaled visuals. Gu Jahong, who once manipulated humans at will, meets the only person immune to her powers, Choi Seok, and everything begins to change. Jun said, "With such an excellent director, writer, staff, and cast, we’ll pour our hearts into making a great project together."
Ji Chang-wook transforms into Choi Seok, a gifted shaman and the director of a museum. Though he seems carefree on the surface, he possesses special abilities and gets entangled with Gu Jahong, setting off a chain of unexpected events. He shared, "The snappy back-and-forth and the character-driven story are incredibly appealing."
Also joining are Cha Joo-young as Ji Woo-kyung, the only person who knows Gu Jahong’s true identity, and Kang You-seok as Go Tae-seung, Choi Seok’s longtime friend. Kim Jong-soo adds gravitas as Choi Seok’s grandfather Man-gwan, while Kim Min-seok promises a fresh twist as Beom-i, the tiger of Inwangsan.
In special appearances, Hwang In Youp shows up as Sam-i, the gumiho’s natural enemy, while Kim Seolhyun and Lee Jae-in expand the universe as the yokai Yeon-i and Bang-sang, respectively.
As the news broke, online communities and social media lit up with reactions like "The lineup is rock solid" and "Feels like a character powerhouse."
Human X Gumiho is slated to air on JTBC in the first half of 2027 and will reach global audiences via Amazon Prime Video.
