Singer-actress Kim Se-jeong kicked off a fresh start at her new agency and dropped a bombshell about her next project.
According to The Fact on April 2, Kim Se-jeong is set to star in the new drama High School Queen.
High School Queen is based on the hit Naver webtoon of the same name. It follows Kim Cheong-ha, the queen of Joseon and an elite swordswoman, who is reincarnated into the body of modern high schooler Park Da-jin. Beloved for its cathartic, no-mercy plot, the story sees her use Joseon-era martial arts to take down school troublemakers.
The drama plans to keep the original’s adrenaline-pumping action while dialing up the romance, expanding the narrative as it jumps between past and present. Notably, Studio Dragon is in charge of planning and development to boost quality, and the team is reportedly eyeing future IP expansion into film and animation.
Kim Se-jeong will play Kim Cheong-ha, who inhabits Park Da-jin’s body, showcasing a wide range of charms. While several actors, including Shin Ye-eun, were initially floated for the role, Kim Se-jeong ultimately landed the part. Having already shown off her action chops in The Uncanny Counter, expectations are sky-high for another round of fierce action.
As the casting news spread, reactions poured in: "She’s a perfect fit for the character," "Can’t wait to see her in hanbok," and "I want to see her action scenes again," among others.
Meanwhile, High School Queen is currently in pre-production, with details such as the broadcast schedule still under discussion.
