Shocking controversy erupted as Go Young-wook, a former member of the group Roo'ra who served prison time for sex crimes against minors, suggested he could work in Japan's adult industry.
On the 12th, Go posted on his social media, starting with, "I just wanted to make people laugh and live happily." He continued, "It seems hard to find a job in Korea," adding, "I think I saw somewhere that Japan is short on male AV (adult video) actors. If it's legally possible." He later even commented on the same post, "If the law allows it."
It has not been confirmed whether Go actually wrote the post with a move to Japan in mind. Online, however, criticism is pouring in that the very statement is inappropriate given his past sex crimes.
From 2010 to 2012, Go was indicted and detained on charges of sexually assaulting and forcibly molesting three minors in places including his officetel apartment and his car. The court sentenced him to two years and six months in prison, along with a five-year order to disclose and notify his personal information and a three-year electronic monitoring order.
He was released in 2015 after completing his sentence, and his entertainment activities have effectively been halted since.
After his release, he opened Instagram and a YouTube channel to communicate with the public, but his accounts and channel were shut down in succession under platform policies. After his YouTube account was closed, he publicly complained, saying, "I don't know if being sanctioned solely for being an ex-con is fair."
He is currently sharing updates and thoughts through X (formerly Twitter).
