Former Roo'ra member Go Young-wook sparked controversy after mentioning the possibility of working as a Japanese AV (adult video) actor. He then posted what seemed like a response to the ongoing social criticism he continues to face even after legal punishment.
On the 14th, Go quoted a passage from Maria Tumarkin's book 'How Not to Speak of Pain' on his X account. The excerpt he shared suggested that beyond court-imposed sentences, communities and people continue to punish individuals in other ways. He did not add further explanation, but many interpreted it as his indirect frustration with the recent wave of negative public opinion and social stigma directed at him.
Go also shared an article explaining that his recent comments about becoming a Japanese AV actor were a self-deprecating joke born out of difficult circumstances, not an actual plan. He added, "Please, stop it now," revealing his discomfort as the controversy continued to grow.
Previously, on the 12th, he wrote, "I wanted to live making people laugh and have fun," adding, "It seems hard to find a job in Korea. I think I saw something about a shortage of male AV actors in Japan; if it's legally possible." He even included the phrase "if the law allows it," fueling speculation that he might be considering activities in Japan or working as an AV actor.
Go, who debuted in 1994, was convicted in 2013 on charges of sexually assaulting a minor and was sentenced to two years and six months in prison. He was also ordered to have his personal information disclosed and to wear an electronic ankle monitor. After his release, he attempted to resume activities through Instagram and YouTube, but failed amid strong public backlash. He now mainly uses X to share his thoughts and updates.
