Director Kim Byung-woo recalled his first impression of child actor Kwon Eun-seong, who delivers a standout performance in the Netflix film The Great Flood.
On the 16th, a production presentation for The Great Flood was held at CGV Yongsan I'Park Mall in Seoul. Actors Kim Da-mi, Park Hae-soo, Kwon Eun-seong, and director Kim Byung-woo attended.
The sci-fi disaster blockbuster The Great Flood follows the desperate fight for survival inside a flooding apartment complex on humanity's final day after a cataclysmic deluge. Kim Da-mi plays Anna, an AI researcher and humanity's last hope, taking on her first-ever mother role for a transformative performance.
Kwon Eun-seong, the child actor who drew attention for appearing in Pachinko, plays her son and delivers a powerful turn. Sharing a casting anecdote, Director Kim said, "I wanted him to look like an ordinary neighborhood kid, and during the audition, the way a little 'potato' rolled in and plopped down was just so cute." Kim Da-mi praised their on-screen chemistry, saying, "I was able to pull it off thanks to Eun-seong," acknowledging the help she received on set.
Kwon Eun-seong added, "On set, 'Mom' Da-mi took such good care of me that it wasn't hard to do well," expressing his gratitude.
Meanwhile, The Great Flood premieres on Netflix on the 19th.
