Actor Jang Ki-yong is reportedly preparing for a bold genre shift with his next project.

According to a January 6 report by MyDaily, Jang Ki-yong is set to headline the upcoming drama The Law of the Line.

The series is described as an office political noir that follows a low-ranking employee with no connections who uses sharp instincts and strategic maneuvering to dismantle entrenched power structures and invisible “lines” within the workplace. The drama will explore deeply relatable office realities, including forced hierarchies, loyalty tests, and ruthless performance evaluations, unfolding through an episodic format designed to heighten immersion. Direction will be handled by Kim Seong-yong, known for The Veil and My Dearest.

Jang Ki-yong is expected to portray Tak Do-il, the head of the Central Team at Nara Bank’s Seoul regional headquarters. Hired through blind recruitment after graduating from a regional university, Tak Do-il begins as an overlooked outsider among elite colleagues. His trajectory changes after receiving a presidential commendation for helping dismantle a voice-phishing ring, leading to a rapid rise that turns him into a role model for marginalized employees and a key power broker within the institution.

If confirmed, the project is expected to showcase a new side of Jang Ki-yong as he takes on a grounded, sharply realistic character rooted in modern workplace anxieties.
