Shocking news rocked K-pop: BoA, SM Entertainment's flagship star, has wrapped up a 25-year journey with the company — a development that drew hot attention on global K-snapp between Jan 7–14.

Recently, SM stated, "After in-depth discussions over a long period, we mutually agreed to end our exclusive contract with BoA as of December 31." With this, BoA leaves the agency she called home for 25 years and sets out on a new path.

Debuting at just 13, BoA blazed a trail across Korea and Japan, becoming a definitive global artist who showcased K-pop's potential throughout Asia. Nicknamed 'Asia's Star,' she helped lay the foundation of the Hallyu Wave and has long stood as a role model for countless K-pop juniors.

Reflecting on her legacy, SM said, "As a pioneer and trailblazer, BoA has, through relentless effort and passion, achieved dazzling results and set records unmatched by others. From her astonishing debut to her growth into a top-tier artist and producer, it was a great honor for the company to share every moment." Although the exclusive contract has ended, the agency expressed unwavering support for BoA's future.

As a K-star loved in Korea and worldwide, BoA sparked intense reactions on global K-snapp's official X and social channels. The Korean account recorded over 190 in exposure, while the Japan account surpassed 350, keeping the topic firmly in the spotlight.

Since her 2000 debut, BoA has left an indelible mark on K-pop history with a string of hits, including 'No.1,' 'Atlantis Princess,' and 'My Name.'
