In a move shocking longtime K-Drama fans, reclusive screenwriter Im Sung-han (pen name Phoebe) will reveal her face for the first time in 36 years — appearing as a special guest on comedy creator Eom Eun-hyang’s live YouTube broadcast at 7:45 p.m. on the 17th.

The appearance carries major significance as Im, who has shunned interviews, public events, and even photos for decades, is finally stepping into the media spotlight. The live will stream on Eom Eun-hyang’s YouTube channel.

This marks the channel’s first-ever live celebrating its one million–subscriber milestone — and buzz was explosive even before airtime. Eom previously teased the booking on her social media, saying, "It wouldn’t make sense if we didn’t invite writer Im Sung-han." She has long fueled the hype with hits on her channel like 'A Complete Guide To The Im Sung-han Universe' and 'Parodying The Im Sung-han Style.'

Im launched her career with the 1990 KBS Drama Special Miro-e Seoseo, then cemented her one-of-a-kind status with consecutive megahits including See and See Again, Miss Mermaid, Wangkkot Seonnyeonim, Dear Heaven, and Princess Aurora. Her bold plot twists and wildly addictive lines even birthed a genre of their own — the so-called 'Im Sung-han style.'

Although she announced her retirement after the 2015 drama Apgujeong Midnight Sun, Im later returned under the pen name Phoebe, making a comeback with TV Chosun’s 2021 series Love (ft. Marriage and Divorce). She is currently writing the TV Chosun drama Doctor Shin.

Above all, this is the first time in over three decades that the famously private Im will communicate with viewers in real time — a truly rare moment. After news broke of her guest spot, online communities and social media erupted with comments like "A historic moment" and "I can’t miss this," sending anticipation through the roof.

Eom Eun-hyang’s live broadcast featuring Im Sung-han will air at 7:45 p.m. today on Eom Eun-hyang’s YouTube channel.
