With just one day left before release, actor Jung Woo — who wrote, directed, and stars in the film — revealed the behind-the-scenes story of how he specially cast director Jang Hang-jun.

On the 20th, ahead of the release of Crayon Shin-chan, Jung Woo sat for a round of interviews. Crayon Shin-chan follows the tumultuous journey of Shin-chan (played by Jung Woo), an aspiring actor, and notably features director Jang Hang-jun in a special cameo that has already caught prospective moviegoers’ attention.

In the interview, Jung Woo shared about Jang Hang-jun: "He was the director who oversaw the very first film audition of my life," revealing their special bond. He added, "I initially wanted to ask him to play a judge for Sandglass. The character had to be funny yet never off-putting, and that perfectly matched Director Jang’s cheerful image," explaining why he cast him. He continued, "To the public he’s a lighthearted figure, but to me he holds an unforgettable, deeply personal meaning," expressing heartfelt gratitude.

Jung Woo especially thanked the director for his loyalty. "He gladly appeared with no fee, so to repay him I sent a coffee truck to the set of The King’s Warden," he said.

He concluded, "It feels like the connection from that first audition has continued all the way to now. Looking back, I still think it was an incredible stroke of luck."

Meanwhile, Crayon Shin-chan — anticipated as the follow-up to the classic Wish that first showcased Jung Woo’s true talent to the public — hits theaters on the 22nd.
