The Baeksang Arts Awards has announced this year’s nominees for the Gucci Impact Award, partnering with Italian luxury brand Gucci for the fourth consecutive year.
The keyword for the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards with Gucci is ‘The Stage,’ spanning every kind of platform, from television and film to theater and musicals. The Gucci Impact Award builds on that theme with ‘The Stage of Impact.’
In line with that vision, five films that delivered powerful cinematic messages, broadened audience perspectives, and sparked social discourse have made the final shortlist: 3rd Year, 2nd Semester (directed by Lee Ran-hee), People and Meat (directed by Yang Jong-hyun), Master of the World (directed by Yoon Ga-eun), The King’s Warden (directed by Jang Hang-jun), and Pavane (directed by Lee Jong-pil).
According to the Baeksang committee, “Each work offers a snapshot of the major currents in Korean cinema and today’s social issues,” adding, “Their shared approach—reframing potentially heavy topics through a lens of hope and love—adds special resonance.”
The announcement ignited heated reactions among movie fans, including, “So it’s basically a three-way race?” and “No clue how far ‘The King’s Warden’ can go.” Others circled back to recent debates, asking, “Staying silent on the Yoo Jae-suk snub controversy?” after Yoo Jae-suk and his content were notably absent from the nominee pool.
Winners will be revealed at the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards with Gucci on May 8. The ceremony starts at 7:50 p.m. KST at COEX Hall D in Gangnam, Seoul, and will be broadcast live on JTBC and Naver. Ahead of the ceremony, a two-day ‘Rooftop Cinema’ will be hosted at the Gucci Cheongdam flagship store from May 22 to 23, featuring this year’s winning titles for invited guests only.
