JTBC’s new Saturday–Sunday drama We Are All Trying Here has premiered amid mixed reactions from viewers.
According to Nielsen Korea, the second episode, which aired on the 18th, recorded a 2.2% viewership rating.
The episode portrays the difficult reality faced by protagonist Hwang Dong-man (played by Koo Kyo-hwan), who, after 20 years without a defining work, continues to rely on part-time jobs while struggling with rejection within the film industry. His situation worsens as he becomes increasingly isolated from his peers, referred to as the “Group of Eight.” Eventually, he confides in his older brother about his circumstances, revealing his frustration and emotional exhaustion.
Byun Eun-ah (Go Youn-jung) becomes a source of support for him. Despite dealing with her own stress, including physical symptoms such as nosebleeds, she offers encouragement and understanding. Her line, “If there’s someone you love, your heart will start pounding,” becomes a pivotal moment for Hwang.
Following the broadcast, online reactions were divided. Some viewers expressed strong relatability with the character’s struggles, while others found the tone too heavy or difficult to follow.
Meanwhile, We Are All Trying Here airs every Saturday at 10:40 p.m. and Sunday at 10:30 p.m. on JTBC.
