Actress IU suddenly collapsed in the middle of her wedding with Byeon Woo Seok, delivering a shocking ending to the episode.
On the May 1 broadcast of MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama Perfect Crown, an unexpected turn of events during the wedding of Seong Hee-joo (played by IU) and Grand Prince Ian (played by Byeon Woo Seok) grabbed viewers’ attention.
The episode showed Seong Hee-joo suddenly collapsing during the ceremony, heightening the tension. After spending time alone together on a yacht, Hee-joo’s heart wavered toward a newly attentive Grand Prince Ian, and a subtle connection began to bloom. Recalling their yacht kiss, Ian confessed, "I didn’t do it because the mood was right. I did it because it was you—my junior," adding to the flutter. However, as they prepared for marriage, a contract stating they would divorce after three years left both of them conflicted.
Before the wedding, Hee-joo appeared uncomfortable at a family celebration with her father Seong Hyeon-guk (played by Cho Seung-yeon). Struggling to hear his worried words, she abruptly left her seat, revealing her anxiety. To comfort her, Grand Prince Ian said warmly, "There are many things I have that you don’t. If you ask, I’ll want to give you anything."
On the wedding day, Hee-joo finally achieved her long-held dream of becoming royalty and entered the palace. Ian, too, gained a partner to share his lonely palace life. Yet amid the blessings, the ceremony plunged into chaos when Hee-joo suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed. Ian’s face, as he caught her, was filled with shock and fear.
According to Nielsen Korea on the 2nd, the episode scored 11.1% in the Seoul Capital Area. It ranked No. 1 among all Friday programs in both nationwide ratings and the 20–54 demographic. Perfect Crown airs every Friday at 9:40 p.m. and Saturday at 9:50 p.m., and is also available on Disney+ and Wavve.
