As aespa’s prerelease track ‘WDA (Whole Different Animal)’ from their second full-length album drops at 6 p.m. on the 11th via major music platforms, the song’s lyrics surfaced early on some streaming sites.
‘WDA’ is a hip hop–based dance track powered by a massive synth bass and a heavy hook, signaling a new chapter in aespa’s lore with lyrics that showcase the group’s strengthened growth. In particular, G-DRAGON took part as a featuring artist and handled the rap-making for his section, completing a fierce synergy with aespa.
The released lyrics are mostly in English from start to finish. While a few Korean lines appear here and there, the overwhelmingly English lyrics drew fans’ attention.
Reactions poured in, including: “It’s all English,” “There seems to be even less Korean than before,” and “It feels like 90% of it is in English.” Some netizens lamented the choice, asking, “Are they even a Korean group?”
Meanwhile, aespa will host a ‘WDA Countdown Live’ starting at 5 p.m., one hour before release, through their YouTube and TikTok channels to talk about the new song and interact with fans.
Aespa’s second full-length album ‘LEMONADE’ will release all tracks at 1 p.m. on the 29th.
