IVE’s Jang Wonyoung is back in the spotlight for her noticeably different airport demeanor following controversy over identity checks at security.

On the 23rd, Jang departed for Japan via the international terminal at Gimpo International Airport in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, for her group’s world tour schedule. She entered the security line without a hat, mask, or sunglasses.

During ID verification, she presented her passport with both hands and calmly followed the security staff’s instructions. Even while waiting, she kept a bright smile, occasionally flashing a natural grin toward cameras before heading to departures.

This drew attention because of the recent airport security controversy. On May 30, while using Gimpo Airport for a Shanghai schedule, footage circulated online showing Jang slightly lowering her mask while keeping her hat on during the ID check, which sparked criticism from some netizens.

Some questioned whether proper ID procedures had been followed, even raising claims of “celebrity privilege.” Complaints were reportedly filed with Korea Airports Corporation (KAC).

As the debate grew, KAC clarified that there was “no special treatment for celebrities.” The corporation said it applies identical standards to all passengers under the Aviation Security Standard Procedures and gives verbal guidance on removing masks or hats on site.

Afterward, Gimpo International Airport updated its domestic flight guide to reinforce ID-check messaging. In addition to showing an ID and boarding pass at the entrance to departures, the guide now adds: “To confirm identity, please briefly remove masks, hats, and sunglasses.”

Against this backdrop, Jang proceeded through security this time without any face-covering items, prompting online reactions that she was mindful of the earlier feedback. Some netizens commented, “She followed the procedure cleanly this time,” and “It looks like she wanted to avoid unnecessary controversy.”

After departing, Jang also posted an in-flight video on her social media. In it, she lifts the window shade to take in the view and moves close to the camera with a smile, looking relaxed.

Meanwhile, IVE, the group Jang Wonyoung is a member of, released their second full-length album ‘REVIVE+’ in February.
