Following the global success of Netflix’s animated film K-Pop Demon Hunters, the small-screen project widely touted as Ahn Hyo-seop’s next big hit bowed out with a whimper, failing to break past the 2% ratings mark.
In the SBS Wednesday–Thursday drama Sold Out on You’s finale, which aired on the 28th, Matthew Lee (played by Ahn Hyo-seop) and Dam Ye-jin (played by Chae Won-bin) overcame past wounds and began building a new, heartwarming everyday life together.
The episode finally revealed the truth behind the long-brewing “Good Morning Cream” scandal. The two who had been unfairly branded as a researcher who made “trash cosmetics” and a show host who took under-the-table money cleared their names by exposing everything. Going further, the new product they developed together sold out during a live home-shopping broadcast, delivering a cathartic win for viewers.
Having shed their trauma, Matthew Lee and Dam Ye-jin basked in a full-on pink romance, creating sweet rules like “Only love on weekends” and “If you talk about work, you owe a kiss.” No longer consumed by work or reliant on sleeping pills and headache medicine, their peaceful nights offered genuine healing.
It wasn’t just the leads’ romance that shined. Seo Eric (Kim Bum) rose to become the new head of Letual, showing dazzling growth, while Songhakdaek of Deokpung Village (Go Doo-shim) embraced the wounded protagonists with big-hearted warmth, enriching the story.
Despite being a well-made, comforting series for viewers, Nielsen Korea reported that Sold Out on You started at 3.3% and wrapped its finale at 2.7%, exiting on a down note without a rebound.
Right after the broadcast, online communities reacted with mixed takes: “We thought it would ride the ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ wave, but the ratings are disappointing,” “Some performances felt a bit awkward,” “Still, it was a gentle, healing drama that didn’t rely on shock value,” and “Ahn Hyo-seop and Chae Won-bin’s visual chemistry was amazing.”
