After skyrocketing to “ten-million actor” status with The King’s Warden, Kim Min has shocked viewers with a radical transformation.
On the 29th, agency J,WIDE Company unveiled behind-the-scenes stills of Kim Min from the Disney+ original series Gold Land.
In the series, Kim Min plays a member of a Cambodian crime syndicate that funnels a huge investment to Chairman Ahn Kyu-seok (Choi Deok-moon) of the Gold Land hotel casino under the guise of a joint resort development. He becomes directly entangled in the massive cash flow surrounding Gold Land and drives the major conflict in the latter half as a key player.
He especially grabbed attention with a 180-degree image overhaul, completely different from his past roles. From the rough, full-face scar makeup to a brash attitude and halting Korean accent, he nailed every detail, bringing a raw, lived-in gangster presence to life.
Right after the drama dropped, praise for Kim Min’s acting flooded online communities. Netizens reacted, “He weirdly looks like actor Kim Sung-cheol,” “He’s on screen for around five minutes, but the impact is lead-level,” and “The on-and-off gap between his everyday self and the character is insane.”
Riding the buzz as an ‘Image twin of Kim Sung-cheol’ on top of his limitless transformations, Kim Min is set to return to the small screen later this year with ENA’s new Monday–Tuesday K-drama Yeonae Baksa, showing yet another side of his talent.
