Amid mounting allegations surrounding rapper-producer MC Mong and his label One Hundred Label, MBC current affairs program PD Note is set to put the controversy under the microscope. In its June 2 broadcast, PD Note plans to tackle claims of unpaid settlements for affiliated artists and questions over the label’s cash flow.
Recently, the PD Note team dropped a teaser on its official YouTube channel featuring an interview with Chairman Cha Gawon. The clip also included several industry insiders. A head of a concert distribution company asked, "Artists are suffering because they haven’t been paid—where do you think all that money went?" A security company CEO further claimed, "People in the industry are saying Chairman Cha gave MC Mong hundreds of billions of won."
An appraisal expert added, "It looks like they’re pulling in cash by bringing in Lee Seung-gi and Baekhyun," hinting at a brewing storm. These statements were made by sources appearing in the teaser; specific facts are expected to be verified in the full broadcast.
The biggest shocker was the on-camera appearance of Cha Gawon, the head of One Hundred Label. Facing the PD Note production team, he said, "If I open my mouth, this entire entertainment scene could be flipped upside down," stoking even more curiosity.
One Hundred Label is an agency co-founded by MC Mong and Cha Gawon in December 2023. Since then, alleged settlement disputes tied to its sub-labels and artists have sparked intense attention inside and outside the industry.
Amid the buzz, MC Mong recently took to a TikTok live to strongly deny the accusations. He said PD Note had asked for his stance on issues including operating funds and alleged illegal gambling, countering, "I don’t even understand the claim that company funds were used for illegal gambling. You can see everything if you check the accounts."
MC Mong also insisted he served only as a producer at One Hundred Label and did not handle the company’s accounting. He mentioned individuals believed to be whistleblowers for PD Note, questioning the credibility of their claims.
Regarding rumors of a private relationship with Cha Gawon, MC Mong repeatedly denied them, saying, "That is absolutely not true." He has explained that the allegations stemmed from misunderstandings during a dispute.
Even before airing, MC Mong’s preemptive rebuttal and Cha Gawon’s direct interview have supercharged the controversy. All eyes are on what PD Note will reveal about the alleged unpaid settlements and money trail surrounding One Hundred Label.
Meanwhile, the episode of PD Note covering these allegations will air on June 2 at 10:20 p.m.
