WJSN member Dayoung is set to spill her solo success story — and a jaw-dropping behind-the-scenes link to Shiloh Jolie, daughter of Hollywood A-listers Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
The June 10 episode of MBC’s variety show Radio Star features Park Jun-hyung, Jonathan, Jung Il-young, and Dayoung in a special themed ‘Wassup! My Way.’
On the show, Dayoung shares that her first solo single ‘BODY,’ released 10 years after debut, outperformed expectations. She not only snagged a music-show win but also received calls from major festivals and even ‘WATERBOMB,’ signaling a brand-new prime as a solo artist.
She also reveals how ‘BODY’ came to life. Determined to create her own solo opportunity, Dayoung flew to Los Angeles without informing her agency. She personally messaged well-known local songwriters to pitch collaborations, and after countless attempts, the track finally took shape.
To build stamina for the stage, she dropped 12 kg (about 26 lbs) over a year. Choosing a healthy approach, Dayoung consistently lost about 1 kg (2.2 lbs) each month. She says both her performance and live vocals have become noticeably easier since the weight loss.
Dayoung also talks about leveling up for global promotions. She switched her daily environment to English and studied by repeatedly watching pop star Taylor Swift’s interview videos. She even woke up at 5 a.m. for English study, sharing lighthearted anecdotes from the process that are sure to make viewers smile.
The biggest shocker comes from the music video shoot. While producing the ‘BODY’ MV in LA, Dayoung held an open audition for dancers and chose a contestant who instantly commanded the room. Later, while finalizing the credits, she discovered that the dancer was none other than Shiloh Jolie.
From the behind-the-scenes of Dayoung’s blockbuster solo leap after a decade with WJSN, to her LA hustle, 12 kg (26 lbs) weight-loss journey, and that special tie to Shiloh Jolie — it all unfolds on Radio Star airing at 10:30 p.m. that day.
