Former racing model–turned–TV personality Ji Yeon-soo opened up about the child support she receives from her ex-husband, former U-KISS member Eli, and the harsh realities she faces as a single mom.
On the 29th, Ji uploaded a video to her YouTube channel, where she accepted viewer submissions about divorce and co-parenting and offered direct advice.
Ji read a story titled "An ex-husband who shows off luxury goods on social media while falling behind on child support." On the case, she gave a blunt, realistic answer: "It's their personal money, so there's nothing you can do. In the end, you have to take it to court."
Even so, she drew a clear line on what child support really is. "Child support is money that goes into raising a child," Ji said. "It's the child's right." She continued, "But no matter how much you explain it to some ex-spouses, they act like they're giving their own money to 'this woman.' Men need to change that mindset."
While expressing frustration at some exes who begrudge paying child support, Ji also pointed out problems with the current calculation standards. "The child-support guideline table is based on data from years ago. Prices keep rising, but the adjustments haven't kept up, so the amount is far from enough," she argued.
Ji then disclosed what she personally receives. "I get 850,000 won from my ex-husband," she said, adding, "The minimum child support for the youngest age bracket is 640,000 won." She noted that payments are generally required until the child graduates high school.
Ji married Eli, who is 11 years younger, in 2014 and welcomed their son in 2016. The two divorced in 2020, with Ji receiving both custody and parental rights. They later appeared together on TV Chosun's variety show We Got Divorced 2, briefly sparking reunion rumors, but ultimately chose to go their separate ways.
Meanwhile, Eli recently drew attention by revealing he remarried six years after the divorce. He explained he met his new spouse in December 2022, and the two tied the knot after dating for about three years.
