Shocking and hilarious! Actors Gong Yoo and Kim Go-eun ignited a no-holds-barred debate over what genre they should tackle together next — a realistic romance or a steamy affair-fueled melodrama.
On the July 12 broadcast of the tvN variety show 'Guardian: The Lonely and Great God' 10th Anniversary Trip, Gong Yoo, Kim Go-eun, Lee Dong-wook, and Yoo In-na wrapped up their journey and chatted about what kind of story they’d want to tell if the four reunited in a new project.
Yoo In-na kicked things off by asking, “If the four of us worked together again, what kind of drama would you want to try?” Gong Yoo pitched a bold setup: both pairs — Gong Yoo with Kim Go-eun and Lee Dong-wook with Yoo In-na — are married in the story, but Gong Yoo and Yoo In-na get entangled in a secret relationship. When Lee Dong-wook groaned, “That sounds exhausting,” Gong Yoo cracked up the group by labeling it “a totally messy love-affair melodrama.”
Kim Go-eun wanted the complete opposite. She suggested “a long-term couple who fight in a brutally realistic way,” adding, “I want to capture intense, real arguments — lots of verbal sparring.”
Lee Dong-wook joked, “How could we fight more than we already do? Just take the cameras away,” but Kim Go-eun held firm: “I want to show that we can really argue.”
When Gong Yoo doubled down — “I’m still voting for the affair melodrama” — Kim Go-eun dropped an unexpected reason for opposing it. “I don’t like melodramas about affairs because then I have to go on a strict diet. Don’t you usually have to take clothes off?” she said, sending the set into chaos.
Startled, Yoo In-na blurted, “What’s gotten into our girl?” Lee Dong-wook asked, “Do affair dramas always require bed scenes?” Kim Go-eun shot back coolly, “You don’t take anything off? Just kissing? In an affair melodrama?” prompting another round of laughter.
The actors’ unfiltered banter kept going until the end. Gong Yoo wrapped it up with a joke: “Anyway, if anyone’s interested in producing this, call us.”
