Amid shocking allegations that singer Jang Yoon-jung’s biological mother used her daughter’s name to run an investment scam, reports say police have paused the investigation because her current whereabouts are unknown.

The June 30 broadcast of JTBC’s current affairs program Scandal Supervisor covered the fraud allegations involving Jang’s mother, identified as Ms. A. Attorney Park Ji-hoon said, "A complaint was filed with police in April, but there have been no signs of activity such as phone or card use, so the probe has been suspended due to her unknown whereabouts." He added, "It’s possible she may have passed away, or she may not be using the name 'A' at all. Even so, it’s unusual to find absolutely no traces of phone or card usage."

According to the broadcast, a woman in her 60s who claims to be a victim met A about two years ago. A allegedly lured her by saying that investing in a project related to a show Jang Yoon-jung appeared on would generate profits. Trusting this, the woman handed over tens of millions of won as an investment, but says she was never repaid even after the promised date passed.

A reportedly gained the woman’s trust by showing messages that made it seem she had reconciled with Jang Yoon-jung and was on good terms. Later, she delayed payment citing company issues, and the woman’s daughter—growing suspicious—filed a police complaint.

Jang Yoon-jung’s side told Scandal Supervisor, "We have had absolutely no direct contact with her mother for decades," adding, "We had refrained from commenting about her mother, but we are speaking up now out of concern for additional victims."
