Shocking yet sweet — aespa’s Karina revealed the unexpectedly tender reason she’s racing to get her driver’s license: she wants to take her grandmother for a drive, touching fans with her heartfelt devotion.
On the 14th, aespa’s official YouTube channel uploaded a video following Karina as she prepared for the license test. In the video, Karina said, "I live with my grandmother. While reading a book, I suddenly thought I wanted to drive with her in the passenger seat," explaining what inspired her to pursue a license. She added, "I really want to spend time with her before she gets any older, so I decided to get my license right away."
Karina hasn’t settled on a specific destination for their first drive, but she shared a sincere plan: "I’ll start with somewhere nearby, and when she has plans with her friends, I want to be the one to take her there." When the production staff suggested a long drive to places like Yangpyeong, Karina laughed and gave a realistic response: "If I’m the one driving, it could take four hours."
The video also showed her studying for the written test. Even with a packed schedule, Karina squeezed in practice exams whenever she could, but on test day she couldn’t hide her nerves. "I don’t usually check things like this, but I was so jittery I even checked my horoscope this morning," she admitted, showing a very relatable side.
After roughly 40 minutes, Karina finished the exam and, after a brief suspenseful pause, shared that she had passed. She scored 85 on the written test, comfortably clearing the cutoff. Flashing a bright smile, she joked, "I’m curious why it wasn’t 100," while still sounding a bit disappointed.
At the end, Karina said, "Now it’s just the road test. I’m pretty athletic, so I want to pass in one go," brimming with confidence. She wrapped up the video on a cheerful note, leaving a message of encouragement to herself for working hard.
Born from her deep love for her grandmother, Karina’s challenge is leaving a warm afterglow — and fans are watching to see if she’ll safely pass the driving test and keep her promised "drive date."
