Set to hit theaters on May 21, director Yeon Sang-ho’s new film Colony has unveiled a making-of video that’s already sparking buzz.
Colony follows survivors trapped inside a locked-down building after a mysterious outbreak, as they face off against the infected who evolve in unpredictable ways. Known for Train to Busan and Peninsula, Yeon is doubling down on the zombie concept itself to deliver a fresh take on the genre.
On the 24th, distributor Showbox released the behind-the-scenes reel for Colony, featuring Yeon Sang-ho and cast members Koo Kyo-hwan, Shin Hyun-been, Kim Shin-rok, Jun Ji-hyun, Ji Chang-wook, and Go Soo introducing the project in their own words.
Koo Kyo-hwan shared, "The idea that the infected keep getting updated was fascinating," while Shin Hyun-been noted, "We’ve never seen the infected move like this before."
In a standout move, the production minimized CG and brought the infected’s movements to life through choreography and physical performance by dancers. Jun Ji-hyun admitted, "Acting it out on set was way scarier than I expected," and Ji Chang-wook called it "a truly new and thrilling experience."
With zombie movements unlike anything seen before, movie fans are flooding comment sections with reactions like "I’ve been waiting for this" and "Even the trailer feels different from your typical zombie flick."
Choreographer Jeon Young, who led the movement team, added, "How can a human body even pull that off? It’s downright uncanny and the peak of technique. I felt like I was born again as an artist," raising anticipation even higher.
