Comedian Yang Sang-guk shocked viewers by dropping the jokes and revealing a painful family story that left the studio in silence.

The teaser for tvN’s variety show You Quiz on the Block, released on the 23rd, previewed the guests set to appear on the April 29 broadcast. In the clip, Yang embraced his recent viral nickname, the 'Gimhae Crown Prince', arriving in a white suit, bow tie, and flashy accessories. Trading quick-fire banter with Yoo Jae-suk, he instantly turned the set into a sea of laughter.

When Yoo Jae-suk quipped, "These days, every time I change the channel, Yang Sang-guk is on," Yang fired back, "If the public complains, I’ll sit this episode out," drawing big laughs. He then joked in a dialect-tinged tone, "How am I supposed to act natural when you dress me up like this?" showing off his variety instincts.

But the mood changed in an instant. When Yoo carefully brought up, "Your father passed away four years ago," Yang fell silent. He then confessed, "What really broke my heart was that my father left this world wrapped in a vinyl bag at the very end," turning the room somber.

Yang had previously shared his father’s story on another program. He revealed that his father, who had been battling complications from a cerebral infarction and surgery, contracted COVID-19 and passed away. Due to pandemic restrictions, the family couldn’t even hold his hand one last time and had to proceed with the funeral, a revelation that drew deep sympathy.

Yang Sang-guk’s episode of You Quiz on the Block airs on the 29th at 8:45 p.m.
