After a five-year journey that left viewers deeply moved, actor Kim Go-eun's story has come to an end — and her on-screen ex-boyfriends are back in the spotlight.
Starting with Season 1 in 2021, Kim Go-eun charted Yumi's tumultuous growth in the TVING original series Yumi's Cells, sharing romances with Ahn Bo-hyun, Park Jin-young, and most recently Kim Jae-won.
In Season 3, whose finale dropped on May 4, Yumi (played by Kim Go-eun) walks down the aisle with younger boyfriend Soon-rok (played by Kim Jae-won), sealing a neatly wrapped happy ending. The most buzzed-about moment was Soon-rok's one-liner. When Yumi asked why he liked her, he replied without a hint of hesitation, "Because you're pretty." The straightforward answer sharply contrasted with those from Goo Woong (Ahn Bo-hyun) and Yoo Babi (Park Jin-young) in earlier seasons, setting online communities and social media on fire.
In Season 1, Goo Woong dodged the question with, "Is that even important?" In Season 2, Yoo Babi answered, "Hmm, I don't really remember," leaving viewers disappointed. Reacting to Soon-rok serving the exact answer Yumi wanted, netizens raved, "It was always going to be Soon-rok," "This is why he's husband material," and "The textbook example of a stable boyfriend."
Meanwhile, Season 3 of Yumi's Cells, which wrapped with Kim Go-eun and Kim Jae-won's heart-fluttering older woman–younger man chemistry, is now streaming on TVING.
