While Korean films are tearing up the domestic box office, they’re barely cracking the charts on global OTT platforms. In sharp contrast, K-dramas are riding a fresh wave of worldwide buzz.

In particular, since its May 8 premiere, Brave New World has sparked a fiery response from global viewers. Leading the charge are the headline-grabbing transformations of stars Im Ji-yeon and Heo Nam-joon, which many say are powering the show’s breakout momentum.

At the same time, Netflix’s original series 'Kiriko' continues to hold strong. The show drew rave reactions right after release and has steadily stayed on the charts ever since.

An unexpected animated title has shocked the global OTT movie rankings by seizing the top spot.

According to FlixPatrol on the 12th, the animated film Swapped beat out heavyweight contenders to claim No. 1 worldwide in the movie category.

Swapped playfully follows a chaotic, heartwarming quest as animals who suddenly find themselves body-swapped reluctantly team up to survive the wildest adventure of their lives.

Notably, the film unites director Nathan Greno of Disney mega-hit Tangled with members of Pixar’s Toy Story team. Reviewers say the top-tier Hollywood animation crew delivers breathtaking natural vistas through meticulous graphics, while the colorful animal characters’ dazzling chemistry completely wins over viewers around the world.

Per FlixPatrol, Brave New World ranked No. 3 in TV shows, proving its red-hot appeal at home and abroad. Nielsen Korea also reported a ratings surge from 4.1% in episode 1 to 5.4% in episode 2, signaling explosive growth.

Brave New World portrays a war-like romance between struggling actress Shin Se-ri (played by Im Ji-yeon), who becomes 'vicious' after being possessed by the spirit of a legendary Joseon-era femme fatale, and cold-blooded chaebol heir Cha Se-gye (Heo Nam-joon), dubbed a monster born of capitalism.

The stars’ bold acting reinventions have viewers hooked. Im Ji-yeon is redefining her 'rom-com queen' image, while Heo Nam-joon exudes overwhelming charisma—together boosting immersion. As the hidden backstory binding the two characters slowly unfolds, anticipation for what’s next is skyrocketing.

Netflix’s K-horror game-changer 'Kiriko' is still riding global momentum, charting at No. 10 despite having dropped on April 24.

'Kiriko' meticulously depicts high schoolers who, cursed by a mysterious wish-granting app called 'Kiriko', face foretold deaths and fight tooth-and-nail to survive.

Breaking from conventional horror with a fresh 'YA (young adult) horror' identity, 'Kiriko' delivers a shocking new flavor. Its stylish take on teen desire and fear is igniting explosive reactions among younger viewers. Newcomer actors are also stealing the spotlight: on social media and online communities, a growing fandom is rallying around the relationship between Yoo Se-a (played by Jeon So-young) and Kim Geon-woo (Baek Seon-ho). Their standout chemistry is cited as the key hook that’s pulling in new fans—even amid the show’s relentless tension.
