Shocking casting reveal: after weeks of wild speculation fueled by silhouette posters alone, the buzzed-about musical has finally lifted the veil and announced the stars leading its second season.
On the 13th, producer S&Co unveiled the cast for the August-opening musical Dear Evan Hansen. This season promises unprecedented synergy, blending the breakout originals with fresh faces bringing brand-new energy.
Dear Evan Hansen delicately portrays modern loneliness and the longing for connection, earning critical acclaim during its 2024 Korea premiere, including two wins at the 9th Korea Musical Awards.
Park Kang-hyun and Im Kyu-hyung, who drove the premiere’s box-office success, return as Evan Hansen. Joining them is Na Hyun-woo, completing a three-actor rotation that will showcase three distinct takes on Evan. Notably, Na went viral six years ago on the musical ensemble survival program Double Casting by singing one of Dear Evan Hansen’s signature numbers, prompting fans to cheer, “The real one has arrived.”
The supporting lineup around Evan is equally stacked. The role of his mother, Heidi Hansen — who embodies deep, unwavering love — will again be played by Kim Sun-young and Shin Young-sook, anchoring the show’s emotional core. The cynical yet wounded teen Connor Murphy will be portrayed by Cho Min-ho and Kim Soo-ho, while his younger sister, Zoe Murphy, will be played by Kang Ji-hye and Jang Min-je, all set to deliver nuanced, emotionally rich performances.
Fans are already buzzing over the news, calling it “a perfect, goosebump-inducing cast” and saying, “Totally worth the wait.”
Poised to deliver warmth and catharsis once again this summer, Dear Evan Hansen raises the curtain on August 1 at the Chungmu Art Center Grand Theater.
