Comedian Yang Sang-guk has finally addressed the growing backlash over his "rude" on-air remarks, explaining his intent and promising change in a new preview that’s already stirring debate.
On May 15, KBS2’s variety show Oktapbang-ui Munjeadeul dropped an early-release teaser featuring singer BIBI and Yang Sang-guk.
In the clip, Yang admits, "I’m actually extremely introverted," then confesses, "I went overboard on shows because I was hungry for screentime." He added, "Some harsh words went out that don’t reflect what I truly think."
He also revisited one of the most divisive lines that sparked controversy. Reenacting the moment when he once said, "Men from Gyeongsang-do don’t walk their girlfriends home," Yang flipped the script for laughs and clarity, shouting, "Why would a woman go home alone? I should walk her back," to stress his real stance. The production team underscored the shift with on-screen text reading, "Our Sang-guk has changed."
Previously, on the web variety show Pinggyego, Yang sparked criticism by saying, "I’ve never walked a girlfriend home." He also pushed back against advice from veteran Yoo Jae-suk, responding, "That’s Mr. Yoo Jae-suk’s view on dating," which many slammed as disrespectful. The controversy further escalated after he made aggressive comments toward Kim Hae-jun on tvN’s 'Amazing Saturday.'
Yang’s explanation and his apparent change of attitude will air on Oktapbang-ui Munjeadeul on May 21 at 8:30 p.m.
