On the 25th, Netflix’s new original series The East Palace unveiled striking character posters of the three leads, igniting buzz online.
The three posters spotlight each character’s eerie fate and chilling aura at a glance. First up, Nam Joo-hyuk as Gucheon, "the one who crosses between the worlds of spirits," dominates the frame with intense charisma. Gripping a distinctive blade etched with red symbols, he teases a massive battle brewing in the palace’s darkest shadows.
Nam Joo-hyuk shared, "I constantly imagined invisible ghosts and an unknown realm while acting," reflecting on his process for this role. He added, "Breathing with an unseen world was crucial. I focused on delivering it vividly without any disconnect in every moment on set."
Roh Yoon-seo transforms into Saenggang, "the one who hears the sounds of the spirit world," drawing even more intrigue. With blood on her forehead as she listens intently to a strange voice, Saenggang amplifies the drama’s mystery. Roh noted, "The narrative and storyline flow in a uniquely compelling way," emphasizing what sets the project apart. She added, "I built the character by centering on each relationship dynamic."
Lastly, Cho Seung-woo as "the king who hunts spirits in the abyss" ratchets up the tension with a heavy, imposing presence. His sharp gaze and the shadow cloaking his face spark curiosity about the truth behind the curse he hides.
Taking on the king, Cho revealed, "It wasn’t easy to craft the precise work of layering multiple masks," but said, "Gucheon, Saenggang, the king—each has a deep backstory, and the way their emotions spiral and explode makes this work incredibly compelling."
Reactions poured in from netizens: "Nam Joo-hyuk looks like a different person," "These posters are so well made," and more.
Meanwhile, the mystery fantasy action series The East Palace will premiere exclusively on Netflix on July 17.
