Yang Se-jong dives into a shocking twist on the prosecutor archetype in tvN’s new weekend drama ‘Spooky in Love’—he’s a justice-obsessed bulldog who’s absolutely terrified of ghosts, setting up a chaotic occult romance that’s already turning heads.

On the 26th, the ‘Spooky in Love’ team at tvN unveiled new stills of Yang Se-jong as Ma Gang-uk.

In the series, Ma Gang-uk is a hot-blooded prosecutor devoted to law and justice—but secretly suffers from a severe fear of ghosts. After he unexpectedly joins hands with chaebol heiress Cheon Yeori (played by Park Eun-bin), who can see spirits, his spiritual sight suddenly awakens and his life spirals into wild, unpredictable chaos.

Yang Se-jong picked the show’s rock-solid character arcs as the reason he signed on. “I was fascinated by how Cheon Yeori and Ma Gang-uk’s story shifts in the latter half, and how each of them overcomes their own trauma,” he shared.

Explaining Ma Gang-uk’s appeal, he said, “At first, ghosts are objects of fear, but as he learns the stories behind them, his gaze warms. The character’s righteous and deeply human side at that turning point really struck me.” On his performance, he added, “Because there are so many scenes facing ghosts, I spent a lot of time imagining them, and on set I tried to stay true to the raw emotions that hit me in the moment.”

Wrapping up, Yang flagged the pair’s fated connection as a key hook: “There’s a theme in the drama about ‘a bond that should never meet.’ I think it’ll be even more fun if viewers watch while asking whether such a bond can really exist.”

Meanwhile, the sweet-and-thrilling chemistry between Yang Se-jong and Park Eun-bin in ‘Spooky in Love’ is set to hit screens on July 18 at 9:10 p.m. KST.
