Actress Son Tae-young opened up in a candid vlog, revealing she’s torn — she loves life in the U.S. but still longs for Korea, igniting fresh comeback buzz.
On July 5, Son posted a daily-life vlog on her YouTube channel, documenting a visit to a Korean-American family’s home. Over a meal, she chatted about life in the U.S., her children’s growth, and where her family might settle in the future.
Touring the home inside and out, Son enjoyed a relaxed afternoon. Introducing the kitchen, camping spot, and terrace, she marveled, saying, "Being here really feels like I’m in a true American home." Savoring dinner and dessert in the spacious, cozy setting, she and her friends naturally continued talking about expat life in America.
When a friend asked, "Are you thinking of going back to Korea?" Son let out a brief sigh. After the friend urged, "Don’t go," she replied, "I’ll probably go back and forth." She added, "I like it here now. It’s become home," but admitted, "To be honest, when I think about work, I want to be in Korea."
Her friends empathized with the dilemma. One said, "It’d be a waste to stay only here," and added, "When you’re in the U.S., you miss Korea, and when you’re in Korea, you miss the U.S." Another revealed they seriously considered moving back to Korea after their child entered college. Son deeply related to the reality many Korean parents face — weighing their children’s education against their own lives.
Son married actor Kwon Sang-woo in 2008, and they have one son and one daughter. For her children’s education, she has been living in New Jersey and regularly shares her daily life on her YouTube channel.
Son first came into the spotlight by winning the Miss Korea Daegu 'Jin' title in 2000, then debuted as an actress in 2001. Her last Korean project was the 2017 MBC drama You Are Too Much.
