Comedian Shin Bong-sun got brutally honest about everything from her dating history to how she's preparing for retirement.
On the July 5 broadcast of the SBS variety show My Little Old Boy, Shin appeared as a special MC. Asked about marriage, she said, "If marriage were something I could do alone, I'd put in the work. But it's about winning someone's heart, isn't it? I started thinking it was a waste of time."
She also revealed her realistic plans for the future. "The pension savings I put 1 million won into every month for 10 years, starting in my late 20s, just matured," she shared. "These days, I'm researching different options. I'm practicing living well—happily and with lots of fun—even on my own."
Her conversation with her mother brought laughs. "At first, my mom would say, 'Men aren't a big deal. If he's kind, just marry him,' but at some point she started saying, 'Who would put up with your temper?'" Shin recalled. "One day she was watching TV and asked, 'How about freezing your eggs?' I thought she meant buying an egg refrigerator," she joked, sending the studio into laughter.
She also dished on past relationships. When Seo Jang-hoon asked, "Is it true all your exes were tall and good-looking?" Shin admitted, "Yes. They were all handsome. Some have families now, so it's hard to go into details." She added, "I once dated someone in secret, and when I said, 'I'm seeing this person,' the women around me practically stopped eating. They all liked him." She continued, "When he told an acquaintance, 'I'm dating Bong-sun,' the person replied, 'Why you?'" drawing more laughter.
Asked if the man worked in broadcasting, Shin said, "He wasn't in TV. I met him back when I was in a theater troupe." While she clarified, "I've never dated a celebrity," she teased, "But he's someone you'd find if you searched," stoking everyone's curiosity.
As for her most recent relationship, she confessed it was "in my 30s." "Back then, even if I wasn't conventionally pretty, I had a cute image so people would set me up with men. But in my 40s, that kind of talk started to feel rude," she said.
Shin Bong-sun debuted in 2005 as a KBS open recruitment comedian and remains actively promoting to this day.
