Actor Cho Seung-woo revealed why he joined the Netflix series The East Palace.
At the July 8 press conference for The East Palace, Cho said he wanted to work with trending stars Nam Joo-hyuk and Roh Yoon-seo.
Cho plays the king in The East Palace. He said, "From the start, the role was simply 'the king' with no name. I read the script thinking, 'I can play a king,' and I found its diverse elements blended well." He added that the dynamic between the king and the queen dowager, plus drama, occult, action, and fantasy, are woven together in a striking way.
Sharing that he was the last to be cast, he said, "I was cast the latest, and then I saw Nam Joo-hyuk, Roh Yoon-seo, and even Jang Young-nam were on board. There was no reason to say no. Maybe it's not bad to ride the coattails of today's hottest stars."
Meanwhile, The East Palace follows Gu-cheon, who can cross into the spirit realm, and Saeng-gang, a court lady with a secret, as they answer the king's summons and uncover the curse haunting the East Palace. It premieres on the 17th.
