Comedian Kim Shin-young will take the stage for a special tribute marking the first anniversary of the late Jeon Yoo-sung.
On the 13th, the 14th Busan International Comedy Festival (BICF) announced that Kim Shin-young will appear in the tribute show titled 'Jeon Yoo-sung Show Without Jeon Yoo-sung'.
The performance aims to celebrate the laughter and comedic spirit Jeon left behind. Alongside Kim Shin-young, Lee Hong-ryeol, Shin Bong-sun, and Zoltan members Lee Jae-hyung, Han Hyun-min, and Jung Jin-wook will join the stage to carry on the late legend's legacy.
The 'Jeon Yoo-sung Show' is a signature performance brand symbolizing Jeon. In 2019, to mark his 50th debut anniversary, he launched a namesake stage and continually delivered laughter with inventive ideas and fresh formats in comedy.
This time, the meaning runs deeper as junior comedians continue a show bearing their senior's name, even in his absence.
Previously, BICF Executive Chair Kim Jun-ho revealed plans for a memorial performance marking Jeon's first anniversary, as well as various commemorative events, including the launch of a new Jeon Yoo-sung Award.
Kim Shin-young and Jeon were known for their especially close mentor-mentee relationship. They first met as teacher and student during college and remained like long-time friends.
Jeon entered the entertainment industry in 1969 as a broadcast writer before becoming a comedian, leaving an indelible mark on the development of Korean comedy. He shone across countless programs and devoted himself to nurturing younger talent.
Meanwhile, the 14th Busan International Comedy Festival kicks off on August 21. The event will open with a celebratory performance by QWER, followed by a variety of colorful stages. 'Jeon Yoo-sung Show Without Jeon Yoo-sung', featuring Kim Shin-young, will be held on the 22nd.
