Shocking twist: The whistleblower who accused actress Song Ha-yoon of school bullying has now been referred to prosecutors for investigation.
On the 16th, Song Ha-yoon’s legal representative, Jieum Law Firm, announced in an official press release that “the complaint against ‘A,’ who raised school bullying allegations against Song Ha-yoon, for defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act, obstruction of business, and intimidation was transferred to the competent prosecutors’ office on June 16.”
According to Jieum, the police station with jurisdiction initially decided not to refer the case against A on February 19. Song Ha-yoon’s side filed an objection on March 18. The prosecution, which took over the case, requested supplementary investigation on March 23, and after roughly three months of additional inquiries, the police reversed their earlier decision and sent A to the prosecution.
Through Jieum Law Firm, Song Ha-yoon said, “I sincerely apologize for causing worry and concern to many people. I did not want to wage a media or public-opinion battle over a matter still under investigation, and I am calmly waiting for the prosecution’s final decision.” She added, “However, as information differing from the facts recently spread again, I was inevitably compelled to correct the bare minimum of facts. I would be grateful if you could wait just a bit longer until the final result comes out.”
The case surfaced in April 2024 when A brought the allegations to light via JTBC’s Scandal Supervisor, claiming that in August 2004, during their second year of high school, they were assaulted by their senior, Song Ha-yoon. A alleged, “Song Ha-yoon called me to a playground and slapped me for an hour and 30 minutes. I was hit without knowing why.” A also claimed that Song became embroiled in a group assault near graduation and was forced to transfer schools.
Song Ha-yoon’s side countered, stating they had “no acquaintance whatsoever with A,” denying any act of violence and denying any forced transfer over school bullying. Her legal representative said in July last year, “We submitted public-institution records, notarized statements, and other evidence revealing A’s claims are false. We also reached her homeroom teacher from that time and confirmed it was the first they had heard of any claim that Song Ha-yoon was forcibly transferred due to school bullying,” adding that they had filed a complaint against A on charges including defamation, obstruction of business, and intimidation.
