The buzzed-about drama born from a 30%-ratings hitmaker director and viral ‘The Penthouse’ star Yoon Jong-hoon is finally pulling back the curtain.
On the 30th, KBS 1TV’s new daily drama Our Happy Days held its production press conference. Director Lee Jae-sang, along with lead actors Yoon Jong-hoon and Uhm Hyun-kyung, and other principal cast members were in attendance.
Helming the series is director Lee Jae-sang, who rewrote KBS’s family-drama playbook with My Father is Strange and Once Again. He previously set peak ratings of 36.5% with My Father is Strange and 37% with Once Again, cementing a new chapter in home-viewing history.
Lee said, “I am deeply grateful to the staff and actors who gave their all despite an unimaginably tight budget,” adding, “We put our hearts into this project, so we ask for your warm support.” Yoon replied, “The director’s heartfelt words really moved me.”
Yoon plays Go Gyeol, the grandson of Kangsu Group’s chairman and a classic “mom’s friend’s son” golden boy. “I’m 0% similar to his Mr. Perfect image, but I’m 100% similar to his warmth,” he said, expressing affection for the role. He added, “I worked hard to understand the director’s vision and act accordingly.” In the story, Go Gyeol enters the heir-apparent race after the chairman receives a terminal diagnosis, crossing paths with Jo Eun-ae (played by Uhm Hyun-kyung).
With a rock-solid creative team and cast drawing attention even before broadcast, all eyes are on whether this series can spark another ratings frenzy and climb into the 30% range.
Meanwhile, Our Happy Days is a melodramatic family series centered on a flawless man and a lovable goof, bringing together multiple generations. The show premieres today at 8:30 p.m.
