Shocking casting buzz: “Action maestro” Kwon Sang-woo is reportedly set to play Hwang Minhyun’s rock-solid uncle and right-hand ally in the highly anticipated new season.
According to OSEN on April 23, Kwon Sang-woo will appear in the TVING original series Study Group Season 2 (hereafter ‘Study Group 2’).
Kwon will reportedly take on the role of Jeon Young-ha, the uncle who trained his nephew Yoon Ga-min (played by Hwang Minhyun) in real combat skills. He secretly mentors his nephew behind his older sister’s back and ends up being cut off because of it, but he remains the most down-to-earth adult in Ga-min’s life—listening closely to his worries and cheering him on.
Study Group is a comedic high school action series about Yoon Ga-min, a boy who badly wants to study well but has a knack only for fighting, as he dives into a brutal entrance-exam survival story at the worst delinquent school and forms a study group. Riding the explosive popularity of Season 1 released last year, the production of Season 2 was confirmed, with full-scale filming underway since last month.
In particular, if Kwon Sang-woo—revered as a legend of Korea’s school-action genre thanks to films like Once Upon a Time in High School—joins the cast, all eyes will be on his signature, no-miss action performance.
