Actress Hyeri, formerly of Girl’s Day, is going viral for a heartwarming act of generosity revealed after the fact. During contract renewal talks, she reportedly gave up her own signing bonus and asked the company to pay it out as bonuses to her staff — a move that’s touching fans and netizens alike.
On the 24th, Hyeri uploaded a video to her YouTube channel showing her heading to the Maldives with her hair and makeup team. On the way to the airport, she gushed, "We’re finally going to the Maldives," adding that she invited the hair and makeup staff because she wanted to make great memories together after all their hard work.
Some staff members didn’t even have passports. Hyeri said, "They didn’t have passports, so we rushed to get them made," revealing that she personally oversaw the prep for the trip. After a grueling journey of about 17 hours, the group arrived in the Maldives.
During a meal overseas, the team poured out their gratitude to Hyeri. One staffer shared, "It’s my first time traveling abroad, and my first passport stamp is in the Maldives," thanking Hyeri for an unforgettable experience.
Another staff member recalled the drama wrap party, saying, "We went to the department store to pick out lucky-draw gifts, and after filming ended, there was a pretty wallet waiting in the car." They said the unexpected present left them deeply moved.
The biggest revelation, though, was the behind-the-scenes story of her re-signing with her former agency. A staffer said, "As the renewal period approached, we all worried Hyeri might leave the company." They continued, "Then the company gathered everyone and said, ‘Hyeri re-signed.’ But we heard she refused the signing bonus and asked them to give that amount to the staff as bonuses. Everyone cried." They added, "From that moment, I couldn’t even think about quitting," explaining why they’ve stayed for so long. Hearing this, Hyeri grew teary-eyed, too.
Hyeri is also known for her steady donations and good deeds, including support for children’s education, wildfire relief, aid for children affected by overseas disasters, and medical expenses for low-income families — spreading positive influence through consistent giving.
Debuting with Girl’s Day in 2010, Hyeri has since expanded into acting. This year, she’s set to appear in the ENA drama A Dream to You.
