Riding a viral wave, actor Jo Beom-gyu is reportedly teaming up with Lee Jun-hyuk after working with Jung Woo — a move that could cement him as the next big star.

According to IZE on the 27th, Jo Beom-gyu will appear in SBS’s new drama Awakening.

Awakening is an occult exorcism thriller set in the heart of Korea’s brutal exam hell, where students lured by performance-enhancing stimulants awaken the ability to hear the dead. As their school turns into a playground for evil spirits, a priest–exorcist throws himself into the fight, staking his very soul to save it.

With Lee Jun-hyuk confirmed as the lead and rising rookies like Kim Tae-young and Ryu Da-in joining the cast, news of Jo Beom-gyu’s casting is ramping up anticipation for the lineup.

Notably, Jo Beom-gyu proved his potential in the film Shin-chan, released on the 22nd, winning his role against staggering 4,000-to-1 odds. With his addition to Awakening, fans are eager to see what kind of on-screen synergy he’ll create.

Meanwhile, Awakening is aiming to premiere next year.
