The horror film Salmokji has just smashed past 2 million moviegoers.
According to distributor Showbox and the Korean Film Council on the 27th, Salmokji has surpassed 2 million admissions as of today and is extending its theatrical run. It's the first Korean horror title to reach this milestone since the pandemic, drawing even more attention.
The feature debut of director Lee Sang-min, the film is the first horror release in eight years—since 2018's Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum—to attract more than 2 million viewers. It is now closing in on the 3.14 million admissions of A Tale of Two Sisters.
Meanwhile, Salmokji stars Kim Hye-yoon, Lee Jong-won, and Kim Joon-han, and its fresh scares and storytelling are gripping audiences. The chilling tale—sparked by a road-view image capturing an unidentified figure and set around a reservoir—keeps theaters on edge with relentless tension and immersion.
Previously, Kim Hye-yoon showcased her lovable charm in the romantic comedy Lovely Runner. With Salmokji, she steps up as a bona fide "horror queen."
