Actor Koo Kyo-hwan sparked laughter as he candidly revisited his past attempt at co-hosting with his then-girlfriend, film director Lee Ok-seop, and why it went hilariously wrong.
On April 28, Koo appeared as a guest on the web variety show Salon Drip and brought up his one-day stint as a special MC during the 100th-episode special. From the get-go, he admitted, "I tried to take over the show as MC for a day, but in the end, it was a failure," recalling the moment with a grin.
"Even now, I think it was an embarrassing challenge," Koo said, not holding back on his self-assessment. He then jokingly pointed to the 'two-MC setup' he shared with his partner Lee Ok-seop as the reason for the flop, sending the studio into laughter.
"I wanted to really show what I could do, but trying to keep an eye on the person next to me made it hard to keep the balance," he explained. "I had veteran energy, but my partner was a newbie, so it needed fine-tuning." He added a cheeky analogy: "It was like playing hide-and-seek with a younger sibling tagging along—you can’t hide properly," prompting big laughs.
Koo was also brutally honest about what happened after filming. "The second I got in the car, I just kept sighing," he said. "I was so disappointed I couldn’t even bring myself to rewatch it." He continued the playful shade: "I think that friend was really disappointed, too. If you’ve got ambition, you should’ve done better."
Still, Koo owned up to his part. "I didn’t do well either. In the end, we both fell short," he admitted, emphasizing his standards for quality: "Even if the outcome looks good, if I’m not satisfied, it doesn’t mean much."
Before wrapping up, Koo made his ambitions clear: "If I get another chance, I want to try again—solo this time," he said, adding with a laugh, "Let’s take it to episode 200."
