Actress Ko So-young opened up about her long hiatus, the impact of persistent rumors, and her plans to resume activities.
On the 28th, Ko So-young uploaded a new video to her YouTube channel, sharing her thoughts and concerns. She had previously deleted all videos on her channel and paused activity, making this return notable. Explaining her break, she said, “I kept debating whether to stop uploading videos. The anxiety felt like an obsession,” describing the reason behind her hiatus.
She also spoke about her acting career. When asked to name a defining work, Ko said, “I don’t really have one,” and added, “Sometimes I wonder if my marriage is my best work,” reflecting on her career with a self-aware tone. Looking back, she shared that her busy schedule left her with little personal time and increasing pressure.
Ko also addressed criticism and rumors. “It hurt to be seen as an ‘actress who only shoots ads.’ I wanted to focus on acting,” she said. She added that false dating rumors and even pregnancy rumors circulated, describing the experience as difficult.
She noted that the situation affected both her and her family, saying, “Now I think more about my children and my family,” and that certain comments still affect her. She also confirmed taking legal action against false information, calling the experience painful.
Ko concluded by expressing her intention to continue her YouTube activities and reconnect with the public.
Ko debuted in 1992 with the drama ‘Tomorrow’s Love’ and rose to prominence through projects such as ‘Mother’s Sea,’ ‘Sookhee,’ and ‘Barefooted Youth,’ as well as films like ‘The Fox with Nine Tails’ and ‘Beat.’ Since the 2017 drama ‘Ms. Perfect,’ she has largely stayed out of the spotlight.
