As the story hits its midpoint, the contract-marriage romance between IU and Byeon Woo-seok deepens with richer emotion and stakes.
Episode 7 of MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama Perfect Crown, airing on May 1, spotlights Seong Hee-joo (played by IU) and Grand Prince Ian (played by Byeon Woo-seok) as they begin their trial newlywed life.
Following a surprise proposal at the palace banquet and the king’s official approval, the pair became an engaged couple. When Grand Prince Ian accepted Seong Hee-joo’s proposal for a contract marriage, they locked in as a solid “team” moving toward the same goal. Their tender moments comforting each other’s loneliness were revealed in the epilogue, leaving a lingering, heart-tugging aftertaste.
But behind the rosy romance, powerful opposition looms. Prime Minister Min Jung-woo (played by Noh Sang-hyun) warned Seong Hee-joo to keep her distance from Grand Prince Ian—then upped the tension by proposing marriage to her himself. On top of that, Royal Consort Yoon I-rang (played by Gong Seung-yeon) is hatching a meticulous plan to use Seong Hee-joo as Ian’s weakness, foreshadowing a rocky road ahead.
The subtle chemistry between the “aide duo” Choi Hyun (played by Yoo Soo-bin) and Do Hye-jung (played by Lee Yeon) is another fresh focal point for the second act. With Seong Hee-joo and Grand Prince Ian moving into a private residence, viewers can expect the aides’ relationship to take a noticeable step forward as well.
Poised for even more gripping developments after the turning point, Perfect Crown airs every Friday at 9:40 p.m. and Saturday at 9:50 p.m. on MBC, and is also available on Disney+ and Wavve.
