Actor Moon Sang-min is raising his global profile as a next-gen 'K-Youth Icon' after being spotlighted by the U.S. daily The New York Times.
On the 1st (local time), The New York Times selected the Netflix film Pavane as one of "5 International Movies to Stream Now." The outlet praised it as an elegant melodrama that gracefully captures love and tragedy, and Pavane stood out as the only Korean title on the list, affirming its artistic merit.
In Pavane, Moon Sang-min anchors the film as Kyung-rok, a young man who sets aside his dream of becoming a dancer and makes ends meet with a part-time job directing cars in a department store parking lot. The New York Times noted that, with Kyung-rok's life as the axis, the deeply woven narratives and relationships among Johan (played by Byun Yo-han) and Mi-jung (played by Go Ah-sung) heighten the film's immersion.
Through this project, Moon delivers a realistic portrait of precarious youth, portraying the journey of healing and growth through relationships with others with delicate, introspective acting. Buoyed by this performance, he was nominated for Best New Actor (Film) at the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards, proving both his acting prowess and box office appeal.
Having emerged as a rising star drawing global attention beyond Korea, Moon is expected to continue his unstoppable momentum. He is set to reunite with audiences worldwide through his upcoming works: the Netflix series Beauty in the Beast (working title) and the Disney+ original series Miracles of the Namiya General Store.
