Director Son Jae-gon’s film Wild Thing is cranking up hype among movie fans ahead of its summer release.
Distributor Lotte Entertainment kicked off its box office push on the 11th by dropping the main poster and trailer for Wild Thing. The comedy follows Triangle, a once-dominant co-ed dance trio that disbanded overnight after an unexpected incident, as they charge into a reckless comeback attempt 20 years later rather than miss their final shot.
The newly revealed poster wittily captures five characters hitting a wall, set against a car stalled with smoke under a bright sky. Standing out are Triangle’s members Hyun-woo (played by Kang Dong-won), Sang-gu (Um Tae-goo), and Domi (Park Ji-hyun) desperately trying to hitchhike; Sung-gon (Oh Jung-se) subtly flashing the group’s heyday signature “Love You” pose; and Yong-gu (Shin Ha-kyun), Triangle’s former agency head, keeping a straight face. Their stark contrast hints that getting back on stage won’t be easy.
In particular, the line “Today, we’re getting on that stage no matter what” teases a frantic, feel-good fight to seize their last chance, dialing up expectations.
The trailer races through Triangle’s glittering prime and sudden breakup—legends once launched by Yonggu Records—before cutting to the present, where Hyun-woo, devastated after being forgotten by the public, finds a spark of hope to return to the stage. He sets out to reunite the scattered members, only to face one cold shoulder after another. Even after Triangle finally regroups, the road to the venue stays rough, with longtime No. 2 balladeer Sung-gon joining the cause. A frantic police chase and nonstop curveballs promise unpredictable thrills and laughs.
At the end of the trailer, Hyun-woo looks straight into the camera and says, “See you soon,” a solemn greeting that raises the question: can they really make it back on stage in one piece?
Once the trailer and official poster dropped, reactions poured in, including, “I can’t even tell how badly Kang Dong-won wants to blow up,” and “This is a must-watch.”
Driven by buzz over Kang Dong-won’s idol makeover, Wild Thing hits theaters nationwide on June 3.
