Former Secret member Song Ji-eun and YouTuber Park Wi opened up about their family plans, revealing they will pursue in vitro fertilization (IVF).
On the May 19 episode of the SBS variety show Same Bed, Different Dreams 2: You Are My Destiny, the couple, married for a year and a half, had a candid conversation about their future.
Song Ji-eun shared her deep affection for children. "I’ve always loved kids, so I wanted to have a baby soon after getting married," she said, adding, "I really wanted to become a good adult for them." Still, she admitted she was careful not to pressure her husband.
Park Wi honestly revealed why he had avoided the topic of having a child. "I worried about practical things — could I change diapers, hold the baby safely, or run carrying them in an emergency?" he said. "Because of my physical limitations, I felt sorry thinking my wife might have to shoulder more." Park was diagnosed with quadriplegia after an accident in 2014, but through rehabilitation, he recovered to a level where he can handle daily life independently. That reality had weighed on him when thinking about having a child.
What changed his mind were stories from people around him. "I gained courage after meeting someone who grew up with a father who uses a wheelchair," he shared. "I realized it’s absolutely possible if you raise a child with love."
Ultimately, the two decided to try IVF this year. "We’re in a situation where IVF is necessary," Song Ji-eun said. "We can’t guarantee the outcome, but we want to start this journey with excitement and hope."
The couple also addressed malicious comments and rumors on the show. Song Ji-eun called out a remark that labeled her a "free caregiver," saying, "It was ridiculous, but the husband I know is someone who does everything on his own." Park clarified, "I handle daily life, including using the bathroom, without assistance."
Despite real-world concerns and public scrutiny, the couple is choosing love and moving forward together. Many are watching to see how their brave IVF journey unfolds.
