Actress Park Ji-hyun delivered a candid, heartfelt story as she openly shared her family's pain.
In a teaser for tvN's variety show You Quiz on the Block released on the 25th, Park Ji-hyun calmly talked about her current life as she gears up for the release of the film Wild Things, reflecting on her upbringing and family.
Thinking back to her childhood, Park said, "Out of the three siblings, I was always the main character," adding, "My younger sibling always came in second or third, and my older sister was the referee. I was always figure skater Kim Yuna," drawing laughter.
But the mood shifted when she mentioned her recent work, You and Everything Else. Park, who played Sang-yeon, a terminal cancer patient, revealed, "Five years ago, my father was diagnosed with cancer."
Recalling that time, she said, "When I first got the script, my father had gotten much better, but while preparing for the role I asked him, 'What does that level of pain feel like?'" She continued, "My father said, 'If it weren't for family, I would have wanted to die,'" and as she remembered his words, her eyes welled up.
That experience had a profound impact on how she understood the character. The Sang-yeon she portrayed is a person who embarks on a final journey after choosing death with dignity, and Park's realistic emotions deeply resonated with viewers.
Park Ji-hyun is set to showcase a new side of herself in the comedy film Wild Things, which opens on June 3. The movie follows a once-popular co-ed group as they take on the challenge of a comeback, promising a different kind of charm.
Meanwhile, Park Ji-hyun's candid confession will air on You Quiz on the Block on the 27th at 8:45 p.m.
