Shocking update: The highly anticipated Disney+ drama Knock-Off, touted as Kim Soo-hyun’s next big project, remains on hold with no confirmed release window. Although a recent shift in the controversy surrounding Kim drew fresh attention to whether the series might finally air, the platform made it clear that nothing has changed.
On the 27th, Disney+ told multiple outlets that regarding the release plans for Knock-Off, “there is no newly finalized information yet.” As a result, industry watchers say the title should still be considered “postponed until further notice.” Even when rumors of a rescheduled lineup surfaced earlier, Disney+ maintained the same cautious stance.
Knock-Off follows a man whose life is upended after the 1997 Asian financial crisis, charting his rise from an ordinary office worker to the center of a massive counterfeit market. The series reportedly cost 60 billion won (approximately US$44 million) to produce and was developed with both Season 1 and Season 2 in mind—building major hype.
However, momentum stalled after Kim Soo-hyun became embroiled in a personal-life controversy involving actor Kim Sae-ron. Plans for an initial rollout were halted, and the entire schedule was overhauled. With the press conference and release roadmap effectively scrapped, Knock-Off has drifted in limbo for an extended period.
Recently, the arrest of Kim Se-eui, head of HoverLab Inc., which had raised allegations about Kim Soo-hyun, sparked speculation that the situation could shift. Some observers suggest that, given ongoing investigations and legal proceedings highlighting the possibility that the claims were false, discussions about releasing the stalled project might finally regain speed.
Despite this, Disney+ continues to proceed with caution. Given the project’s scale—and the fact that timing can’t hinge on just one actor’s circumstances—the platform may be closely monitoring public sentiment and market conditions before making a move.
Meanwhile, on the same day, Kim Soo-hyun’s agency, Gold Medalist, issued an official statement: “The various allegations and evidence raised by HoverLab Inc. against Kim Soo-hyun have been confirmed to be untrue.” They added, “At a press conference a year ago, Kim Soo-hyun promised, ‘I won’t ask you to believe me. I will make sure to prove it.’ At last, through legally prescribed procedures and a thorough investigation, the truth has been proven.”
