Actor Oh Young-soo has been officially cleared, with the Supreme Court finalizing a not-guilty verdict in his indecent assault case.
On the 25th, the Supreme Court’s Third Division upheld the appellate court’s acquittal of Oh Young-soo, who had been tried on indecent assault charges. Prosecutors challenged the appeals court ruling, but the Supreme Court dismissed the appeal, finding no misinterpretation of law in the lower judgment.
Oh was indicted without detention in November 2022 on allegations that, in 2017 while staying out of town for a stage production, he forcibly hugged a woman identified as A on a walking trail and kissed her on the cheek in front of her residence—conduct prosecutors viewed as two separate acts of indecent assault.
In the first trial, Oh received an eight-month prison sentence suspended for two years. However, the appellate court overturned that verdict and acquitted him. With the Supreme Court rejecting the prosecution’s final appeal, the not-guilty ruling is now conclusive.
Oh gained worldwide attention for portraying Oh Il-nam in the Netflix original series Squid Game, where he left a strong impression as the so-called ‘Gganbu Grandpa.’
